The Eyes Who Listen

a thank you poem
to Elena Fernández-Collins and Wil Williams
for everything that they do
from Erin Kyan

we breathe life
into the soundwaves,
birth and sculpt our dreams,
and present them at the table.

we sit, and we wait,
hoping that our gift is
delicious, tempting,
and stastifying.

whispered wishes,
nervous requests,
insecure offerings.

there are angels who
are wheels of a thousand eyes
and lo, we know them,
for they watch over us.
always ready to witness
what feats we offer.

there are angels who sing praise
at the throne of sound,
and lo, we know them,
for their words carry to us
messages of wisdom
and knowledge.

we thank you,
you of soft feathers
against our trembling lips,
you of thoughtful reassurance
pressed against our heads.

we thank you,
the eyes that watch over us,
the ears that receive us,
the hands that reach out to us.

may the sounds we create
bring as much comfort and joy to you
as your guardianship and guidance
instill in the souls
of we who appreciate you.
